Did your oven stop working and ruin your baking plans? If your oven starts to malfunction due to a breakdown, you may need a technician to rectify it. The cost of a repair varies depending on the fault. Why buy a new oven when installation may cost more than a repair? There are a few things you can do to prevent the breakdown of your oven.
- Never cook a roast without covering it. Oil and grease can get on the elements and cause them to go defective. Instead, bake your roast covered with aluminum foil or in a pot with a lid. If you need to brown the meat, remove the cover at the end and turn the grill on.
- When you are finished using your oven leave the door open to expel any excess moisture. If you have little ones be sure that they cannot enter the kitchen.
- When cleaning your oven make sure you do not use sprays and do not let any liquid make contact with the elements as this will cause the elements to become defective. We recommend using bicarb soda for cleaning. Just make a slurry of water and bicarb and apply the paste around the oven and turn the oven on. Then once the oven has cooled wipe the bicarb off.
Whether it is SMEG oven repair, ILVE oven repair, or Westinghouse oven repair, Home Appliance Repairs has experts who can adequately deal with all your oven issues. But before you call out a technician for oven repair, here is a list of things you may be able to check in order to either assist us with the issue or fix the issue yourself.
- Is the gas ignition refusing to respond automatically when turned on? Before you get a technician to check your oven, clean the gas burners and make sure there is no grease in the burner as grease will restrict gas flow. If it is still not working, you can remove the burner and check that the gas jet isn’t blocked. If blocked, stick a needle in the jet and it should rectify the issue. If it isn’t clicking and there is no ignition, check the powerpoint first by plugging something into the powerpoint. If there is no power then check your switchboard and determine whether the fuse has tripped. If there still is no ignition we recommend using a BBQ lighter to ignite the stove because it saves money and works just as well.
- Has your electric burner become faulty? If your electric cooktop is not working, again check for power. If there is power and you still can’t get it to work then you will need to call a technician. You could try unplugging and plugging it back in and see if that rectifies the issue.
Furthermore:
- Is the gas oven refusing to heat? Usually, If you have a gas oven you will need to call a gas technician or a plumber. We do not repair gas ovens.
- If your oven doesn’t reach the desired temperature then you will need a technician to change the thermostat.
- We use a multimeter to check if your thermostat is defective. In some cases, the thermostats will still work but may have lost their internal fluid so they will not reach the correct temperature workings, and the temperature sensor can be replaced if it is faulty.
- Is your oven door closing properly? The oven door must close firmly in order to work properly, otherwise, you may have an issue with heating and it will also damage the deco on the oven. If you encounter this issue you may need a technician to assess whether the hinges are damaged or the female boxes are damaged.
- Does your oven globe work? If you have an issue with the oven globe not working, turn the power off at the fuse, remove the globe cover, remove the globe and take it to a lighting store and replace it. If you do not know how to do this then call a technician.
- Is your oven smokey when operating? If you have a smokey oven, it is an indication that the elements have grease or oil on them. Simply crank the oven up to full and burn the excess oil off. Be sure to turn your extractor fan on because it may trip your fire alarm.
